Roxbury Weston opened its doors 56 years ago with a mission to offer a diverse learning environment where children of all races, religions, and backgrounds can come together to embrace and celebrate each other.

We are honored to commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Mrs. Coretta Scott King on this MLK Day by sharing with our community the spectacular sculpture ‘The Embrace’. It was erected this past Friday in their honor and located in Boston Common in the 1965 Freedom Plaza. This monument will last for generations and will be a constant reminder of the fight for Civil Rights and a call to action to ‘embrace’ one another. And in the words of Dr. King, “Always fight with love”.

The concept for this memorial began in 2017 by entrepreneur Paul English, Rev. Liz Walker of Roxbury Presbyterian Church and Rev. Jeffrey Brown Founder of RECAP. An art committee was formed, public input was submitted and 126 teams from around the world vied for the opportunity to create this memorial. By March 2019, artist Hank Willis Thomas and MASS Design Group were selected for the coveted position.

We are so honored to carry with us the compassion and tolerance to celebrate differences taught by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Mrs. Coretta Scott King.
